MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Speaker   Mr. Frank Ali, MBA, CMAR, RLATG,

Has over 40 years’ experience performing, overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of diverse animal facilities housing a wide array of species. His responsibilities have included: adequate staffing; hiring and direct oversight of animal care personnel; facilities maintenance; emergency response; individualized technical PI support; equipment purchase; repair and preventive maintenance; and service contract and vendor management. In addition, he has extensive experience with ABSL2 and ABSL3 procedures and cost accounting for operating these types of facilities. He has assisted project managers in several facility renovations and in new construction of facilities. He has trained animal and support technicians and encouraged them to further their careers thru the available professional certification programs. He has been directly involved in collecting the data for on cost accounting and rate setting and assignment of raw expenses to appropriate cost centers needed in the analysis. He remains an active member in AALAS, both at the local and national levels.

Frank has assisted many peers with doing pre-site visits of their facilities prior to their AAALAC Site Visits and he has helped many technicians with preparation for their AALAS Certification exams. His involvement in AALAS at the National and local levels has included 6 years as a board of trustee member, was a candidate for president-elect for Nationals in 2003 and past president of 4 local AALAS branches. Even though Frank is retired and quote “Living the Dream” he still remains active in AALAS at the National level as a Life member, continues to maintain his RLATG and CMAR and is active in the Three Rivers Branch as the Program Coordinator.

Frank will share his past 40 plus years in the industry and how the organization was a major asset to his career.

Michelle is a registered veterinary technician. She has been a practicing veterinary technician in companion animal medicine for over 20 years. She has been with VRL for a little over a year now. She has really enjoyed getting to know the lab animal medicine world. Michelle lives in Maryland with her 6 cats, and 2 dogs, one of which is a newly adopted rescued research beagle from a facility in DC. In her spare time Michelle enjoys true crime documentaries and podcasts, reading, and gardening.
